Wallace Stegner (18 February 1909, Lake Mills, Iowa – 13 April 
1993, Santa Fe, New Mexico) , was an American novelist, short story writer, environmentalist and historian. He is the author of 30 books including Angle of Repose (1971) and The Spectator Bird (1977). He received a Pulitzer Prize, a US National Book Award, several O. Henry prizes, and the 1980 Robert Kirsch award from the Los Angeles Times for lifetime literary achievements. He died in a car accident in 1993.
