Nives heeft onlangs haar man verloren na een lang huwelijk. Aanvankelijk gaat het rede lijk, maar al snel voelt ze zich eenzaam. Dan besluit ze haar favoriete kip Giacomina in huis te halen. Met verbazing merkt ze hoe fijn ze dit gezelschap vindt. Als Giacomina op een avond naast haar op de bank televisie zit te kijken en bij een wasmiddelreclame plotseling verstart, raakt Nives in paniek. Ze belt Loriano, de bevriende dierenarts.

Wat volgt is een hilarisch gesprek dat onverwachte wendingen neemt. Van kip Giacomina naar de overledene, van Nives’ huwelijk naar de afgronden van de grote en kleine teleurstellingen, gemiste liefdes en heimelijke relaties. Sacha Naspini is geboren op  19 oktober 1976 in Grosseto, Italië. Hij is scenarioschrijver, schrijft voor La Repubblica en werkt als redacteur en vormgever voor verschillende uitgeverijen. Zijn romans zijn in vijftien talen vertaald. In april 2025 verscheen zijn nieuwste boek Giacomina.

Sacha Naspini was born in 1976 in Grosseto, a town in Southern Tuscany. He has worked as an editor, art director, and screenwriter, and is the author of numerous novels and short stories which have been translated into several languages. Nives was his first novel to appear in English.
