Simone Atangana Bekono Confrontations

Simone Atangana Bekono is geboren in 1991. Ze groeide op in Dongen, Noord-Brabant als dochter van een vader uit Kameroen en een Nederlandse moeder. Haar middelbareschooltijd bracht ze door op Sint-Oelbertgymnasium in Oosterhout, waarna ze Media & Cultuur ging studeren aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Deze studie maakte ze niet af. Wel rondde ze in 2016 succesvol de studie creative writing aan hogeschool ArtEZ af.

In 2017 debuteerde ze als schrijfster met de dichtbundel Hoe de eerste vonken zichtbaar waren. Ze ontving hiervoor Poëziedebuutprijs aan Zee. Haar debuutroman Confrontaties die in 2020 verscheen, kwam op de shortlist van de Libris Literatuurprijs. Bovendien won ze de prijs voor het Beste Boek voor Jongeren 2021 (CPNB) en de Hebban Debuutprijs 2021 en Anton Wachterprijs 2022. Bovendien werd de roman een verkoopsucces.
