Chris Kraus was born in 1955 in New Yrol City. She is a writer and critic. She studied acting and spent almost two decades making performances and experimental films in New York before moving to Los Angeles where she began writing. Her novels include Aliens & Anorexia, I Love Dick, Torpor, and Summer of Hate. She has published three books of cultural criticism—Video Green: Los Angeles Art and the Triumph of Nothingness, Where Art Belongs, and Social Practices. I Love Dick was adapted for television and her literary biography After Kathy Acker was published by Semiotext(e) and Penguin Press. A former Guggenheim Fellow, Kraus held the Mary Routt Chair of Writing at Scripps College in 2019 and was Writer-in-Residence at ArtCenter College between 2020–2024. She has written for various magazines and has been a coeditor of the independent press Semiotext(e) since 1990. Her work has been praised for its damning intelligence, vulnerability, and dazzling speed and has been translated into seventeen languages. She lives in Los Angeles.

John Irving was born on 2 March 1942 in Exeter, New Hampshire. His first novel, Setting Free the Bears, was published in 1968, when he was twenty-six. He competed as a wrestler for twenty years, and coached wrestling until he was forty-seven. He is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 1980, Mr. Irving won a National Book Award for his novel The World According to Garp. In 2000, he won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Cider House Rules. In 2013, he won a Lambda Literary Award for his novel In One Person. Internationally renowned, his novels have been translated into almost forty languages. His all-time bestselling novel, in every language, is A Prayer for Owen Meany. A dual citizen of the United States and Canada, John Irving lives in Toronto.

Shirley Jackson was born on 14 December 1916 in San Francisco, California. When her short story, The Lottery, was first published in Hangsaman Shirley Jackson 1951 novel first editionthe New Yorker in 1948, readers were so horrified they sent her hate mail; it has since become one of the most iconic American stories of all time. Her first novel, The Road Through the Wall, was published in the same year and was followed by Hangsaman, The Bird’s Nest, The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House (De geesten van Hill House) and We Have Always Lived in the Castle (We hebben altijd in een kasteel gewoond), widely seen as her masterpiece. In addition to her dark, brilliant novels, she wrote lightly fictionalized magazine pieces about family life with her four children and her husband, the critic Stanley Edgar Hyman. Shirley Jackson died on 8 August 1965 in North Bennington, Vermont, at the age of 48, due to a heart condition.

Elizabeth Strout is geboren op 6 januari 1956 in Portland, Maine, in de Verenigde Staten. Ze schreef onder andere de romans Olive Kitteridge, dat bekroond werd met de Pulitzerprijs, Ik heet Lucy Barton  en Niets is onmogelijk. werd met de Pulitzerprijs bekroond en door HBO tot een miniserie gemaakt. In 2021 verscheen Het verhaal van William, die op de shortlist stond van de Booker Prize. In 2022 volgde Lucy aan zee. Paul Bowles was born on 30 December 1910 in New York City. He is considered one of the most remarkable American authors of the The Sheltering Sky Paul Bowles novel from 1949 first editiontwentieth century. He studied music with composer Aaron Copland before moving to Tangier, Morocco, with his wife, Jane. His first novel, The Sheltering Sky, was a bestseller in the 1950s and was made into a film by Bernardo Bertolucci in 1990. Bowles’s prolific career included many musical compositions, novels, collections of short stories, and books of travel, poetry, and translations. He died on 18 November 1999 in Tanger, Morocco at the age of 88 and was buried in Lakemont Cemetery, in upstate New York.
