De zwarte Amerikaanse zangeres, actrice en activiste Josephine Baker is een van de beroemdste artiesten van de twintigste eeuw. Ze vierde triomfen in Parijs en over de hele wereld en heeft een bewogen leven geleid. Een leven dat behoorlijk wat auteurs heeft geïnspireerd om erover te schrijven. Maar niet alleen dat ze is bovendien geëerd met films, tentoonstellingen en zelfs een musical over haar leven.

Josephine Baker biografie

Ze werd op 3 juni 1906 als Freda Josephine McDonald geboren in St. Louis, Missouri. De naam Joséphine Baker nam ze aan toen ze zich tot Frans staatsburger liet naturaliseren. Haar successen boekte ze vooral als actrice en danseres in Europa en met name in Frankrijk. Bijzonder is dat ze in 1927 als eerste zwarte vrouw de hoofdrol kreeg in een speelfilm, te weten de Franse film La Sirène des tropiques. Haar carrière kende ups en downs maar vergeten werd ze nooit. Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog was ze actief in het verzet als spion en ze speelde ook een belangrijke rol in de Amerikaanse burgerrechtenbeweging.  Nadat ze een miskraam had gekregen moest haar baarmoeder verwijderd worden waardoor ze geen eigen kinderen kon krijgen. Waarna ze jaren later ze twaalf kinderen uit alle delen van de wereld adopteerde die de Regenboogkinderen werden genoemd. Op 12 april 1975 overleed Josephine Baker in Parijs aan de gevolgen van een hersenbloeding en werd 68 jaar oud. Ze werd begraven op het Cimetière de Monaco en werd op 30 november 2021 geëerd met een  cenotaaf in het Panthéon te Parijs.

Lola Kirke is born on 27 september 1990 in Portland Hospital in London, England. She is the daughter of rock drummer bands Bad Company and Free and is an acclaimed actress (Mistress America, Gone Girl, and Mozart in the Jungle) and singer-songwriter. Wild West Village is her first book.

Bethany Joy Lenz (2 April 1981, Hollywood) starred in the hit TV series One Tree Hill. Her other acting credits include Guiding Light, Grey’s Anatomy, Charmed, Felicity, Suits, Dexter, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She is also a recording artist who has released several albums. Lenz currently cohosts the podcast Drama Queens and is the founder/editor-in-chief of the broadsheet newspaper Modern Vintage News.
