Trevor Burnard was born on 15 October 1960 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was Wilberforce Professor of Slavery and Emancipation at the University of Hull and director of the Wilberforce Institute. He was the author of numerous books on Caribbean plantation history and imperial history and served as editor of the Oxford Bibliography Online in Atlantic History. Burnard died on 19 July 2024, at the age of 63.

Andrew Jackson O’Shaughnessy was born in in 1959 in Cheshire, Engeland. He is professor of history at the University of Virginia. His books include An Empire Divided: The American Revolution and the British Caribbean and the prizewinning The Men Who Lost America: British Leadership, the American Revolution, and the Fate of the Empire.

In April 1964, Ford’s Mustang pony car stormed onto the scene, igniting a sales phenomenon that forced Detroit’s other automakers to scramble to create their own competitors. Around the same time, the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) was transforming from a purely amateur organisation into a professional racing powerhouse, introducing prize-money championships.

By 1966, the SCCA launched two landmark series: the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (Can-Am) and the Trans-American Sedan Championship (Trans-Am). While Can-Am focused on unlimited FIA Group 7 sports cars, Trans-Am catered to FIA Group 2 touring cars, with classes divided by engine sizes: up to 2000cc and 2001-5000cc. The Over-2000cc class was crafted specifically with the Mustang in mind, ensuring Ford’s interest and leveraging the growing pony car wars.

Chevrolet answered Ford’s Mustang with the launch of the Camaro in September 1966, sparking fierce competition on the track and in showrooms. Soon, Mercury, Pontiac, Dodge, Plymouth, and AMC joined the fray, turning the Trans-Am series into a battleground for Detroit’s ‘Big Four’. Manufacturers saw Trans-Am success as a path to dominance, investing heavily in developing race-ready cars and unleashing low-production homologation specials like the Mustang Boss 302, Camaro Z28, Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am, AMC Javelin Mark Donohue Edition, Dodge Challenger T/A, and Plymouth ’Cuda AAR—now some of the rarest and most valuable classic American cars.

Beyond the famous Mustang and Camaro rivalry, this book uncovers the untold stories of their challengers and the relentless pursuit of sales glory. Mercury nearly claimed the championship in 1967, and AMC triumphed in 1971 and 1972 with Penske Racing. The fierce competition left an indelible mark on American motorsport history.

He is in the process of building an FIA Appendix K 1967 Pontiac Firebird for historic racing, and he and his British born wife are looking to move to Europe in the near future. Steve runs a motorsport history and discussion forum called The Roaring Season. He was recently accepted as a member of the Guild Of Motoring Writers.

Her Katrina photos are the subject of a solo exhibition at the Two Mississippi Museums from March 8, 2025-November 7, 2025 in honor of the twentieth anniversary of the storm’s impact on Mississippi. A definitive account of the formation and operation of the segregated all black US squadrons which served in the Second World War.

The Tuskegee airmen as they came to be called took their name from Tuskegee Institute (now University) where they were educated, which was located near Tuskegee Alabama. Many of these first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces came from states where blacks were still subject to the Jim Crow Laws. The American military was racially segregated, as was much of the federal government and the Tuskegee Airmen were frequently subjected to discrimination, both within and outside of the army.

The book goes into much detail on decisions made and not made at the highest military and civilian levels in wartime Washington as to the founding, use and value of a racially-segregated all-Black fighter squadrons. In the end, a decision had to be between a Black squadron or no Black squadron at all. The resultant 99th Fighter Squadron and the follow-on 100th, 201st and 203rd squadrons were decisive in opening the way for full US military integration a full decade before America’s civilian society began to go the same way.

This account of these squadrons examines the background to their formation, their training and operations in theatre. The book is based on interviews with many of the Tuskegee Airmen themselves. This is supported by research in USAF archives. The work deals not just with the pilots and their warplanes in battle but also with their everyday life on air bases in the segregated Deep South and in the field in wartime Italy.

Stanley Sandler is a retired military historian who has taught at the college and university level in the U.S. and Canada. He has published numerous peer-reviewed books and articles on military, naval and air power history. His last active history position was as Assistant Command Historian at the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He holds the B.A. (Houghton College) the M.A. (Columbia University) and the Ph. D. (Kings College, London University) where he studied under Sir Michael Howard.

In De Jakartamethode laat Vincent Bevins zien dat de brute uitroeiing van ongewapende linksdenkenden een belangrijk onderdeel was van een van de grootste Amerikaanse overwinningen tijdens de Koude Oorlog. In 1965 hielp de Amerikaanse regering het Indonesische leger bij een bloedige zuivering, waarbij naar schatting een miljoen vermeende communisten – vaak onschuldige burgers – om het leven kwamen. Voor de Washington Post was hij correspondent in Zuidoost-Azië, voor de Los Angeles Times in Brazilië. Tegenwoordig woont hij in Jakarta en schrijft hij onder andere voor de New York Times, The Economist en The Guardian.
