De Amerikaanse Josephine Johnson (20 juni 1910, Kirkwood, Missouri – 27 februari 1990, Batavia, Ohio) begon al zeer jong met het schrijven van poëzie en proza. Haar verhalen en gedichten verschenen in onder meer Vanity Fair, Poetry en The Atlantic Monthly. Later publiceerde ze verscheidene verhalenbundels en romans. Met Now in November (1934), vertaald als Nu in november, haar debuutroman, won Johnson op 24-jarige leeftijd de Pulitzerprijs voor fictie. Daarmee is ze nog altijd de jongste auteur die deze prijs heeft ontvangen.
